IMPACT

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.  Matthew 5:16 NKJV

Often times in order to explain to my youth group the impact of a single choice or action of our own free will, I would ask them if they had ever skipped rocks.  I used to love skipping rocks, still do if I’m being honest.  My cousins and I would see who could skip the furthest.  More times than not, I would be the better rock skipper.  My secret, choosing the perfect rock.  While others would just pick up any ole rock and try to sling the hardest, I would be very selective.

I loved to watch the rings as they would expand from every touch of the surface.  I would use this to explain that just as the rings expand when the rock would touch the surface of the water, our choice of actions has the same effect throughout our daily lives.  Just as I would choose wisely when selecting my rock, I must choose wisely when responding to daily situations that I face.  A single choice can impact many lives.

The definition of impact:  To have a strong effect on someone or something.  To influence.  So, as we begin each day it is essential that we start it with the one who already knows the situations that await us.  He can equip us for every good work.  We want to be a positive influence on such a negative world.  We want to impact others with the love of christ and shine our light so that our Father in heaven will be glorified.

Jesus reminds us to meditate daily on the word of God.  This will renew our minds and prepare us for the day ahead.  By doing this, we will learn more about the character of Jesus and adapt his teaching into our daily lives, making us a better influence on those we come in contact with.  Remember, Love God with everything you got, Value other people and Improve yourself.  You get but one opportunity on this journey of purpose, make it count.  May you enter his gates with thanksgiving and praise in your heart, and may you hear, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant”.
