When he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourer’s are few”. Matthew 9:36-37
I can’t imagine what it must have been like to witness the miracles of Jesus. People by the thousands were lined up to be healed or to witness a healing themselves. So many lives and so little time, his heart was moved as he looked into their eyes; for he looked much deeper than what others saw on the surface. What does he see when he looks into the depths of your heart? Are you a fan or a follower?
When the show was over, many of those that once stood to follow Jesus were gone. Those were the fans. God doesn’t want or need fans; he calls us to follow him. Take Paul for example, and what a wonderful example he was. A man that once slayed those that claimed to be followers of Jesus became one himself. In Romans 1:1 Paul wrote “Paul a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God”.
What is your hearts cry? Is it to serve God in all that you do? To tell others about him regardless of the cost? Jesus paid the ultimate price for our spiritual freedom. He desires our faithfulness not just our interest. So, who are you today fan or follower?
