GOT THIRST?

(WEEK 3 OF OUR 6 WEEK SERIES)

Foundation is important when talking about our walk with Jesus. I shared in an earlier post that I was 9 when I first truly understood who Jesus was and what He had done for me. I was 16 when I understood what it truly meant to be a follower of Christ and have a relationship with Him. I believe I was safe and protected by my personal LORD and Savior because if I had died before I came to the realization of true surrender to his Lordship, I fear I wouldn’t have made it to my proclaimed inheritance.

I want to make sure that everyone comes to the full saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. It’s important that you know that you know that you know you are saved. It is essential to know and understand what you believe and why you believe it. Make sure you are not riding on the wings of someone else’s faith, but that you are proclaiming your truth in Jesus for yourself.

FOUNDATION: ABC’S

A. ADMIT THAT I AM A SINNER – ROMANS 3:23 “FOR ALL HAVE SINNED AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD,”

B. BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST AS THE SON OF GOD AND ALL THAT HE HAS DONE FOR ME- ROMANS 10:10 “FOR WITH THE HEART MAN, BELIEVETH UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS.

C. CONFESS – ROMANS 10:9 ” THAT IF THOU SHALT CONFESS WITH THY MOUTH THE LORD JESUS, AND SHALT BELIEVE IN THINE HEART THAT GOD HATH RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD, THOU SHALT BE SAVED,”.

The salvation of one’s soul is serious business, and God takes business about His children very serious. He wishes for none to perish but for all to come to the saving knowledge through His Son Jesus. At the moment of salvation, our soul is saved. Your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life never to be erased. What an amazing feeling!

The foundation of your faith rests only on Jesus and what he accomplished for each of us. He is our solid rock, our firm foundation. Building on anything else we are going to be sunk. Romans 8:5 – Talks about our mindset. When we come to the saving knowledge of Jesus our heart(soul) is saved and changed forever, however our flesh is still present for we are still in this present world. Hence, the need to stay connected with the Father and make sure our mind is set on the things of importance. Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God,”.

To completely surrender to God, is to surrender all of ourselves under the authority of His will for our lives. That means God tells me what to do with my life. He is the ultimate authority. He is the KING of the KINGDOM. Because I still battle with the flesh and will until my dying day, Paul tells us in Romans resist allowing this present world to dictate who you are and what you do. Allow God to renew your mind that you may be focused on God’s will for your life.

My mind may be of the flesh, but the spirit of God lives within me. The comforter became part of me when I asked Jesus into my heart. When I am quiet and focused that still small voice within speaks to me when I need instruction. The comforter guides me in interpreting the Word of God and helps me keep my focus. We are all a work in progress, but we must spend time daily with God and in His word in order to become who He knows we can be in Him. Philippians 4:13 ” I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength,”.

Are you living by the flesh or the spirit? Does your life align with God’s will for your life or not? II Timothy 1:14 Paul is writing a farewell letter to Timothy and reminds him of that good thing which was committed unto thee and to keep it by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

We are entrusted with a priceless treasure. The free gift of God’s love – Salvation For All. As his disciples we are entrusted and commanded by God to share the “Good News”. Before we can be useable vessels we must walk in the way – according to the spirit. Our mindset must be renewed daily.

Before moving to 1 Corinthians 2:16, lets back up to verse 11. “For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Paul is letting us know that we know our own thoughts and no one else but God knows what we are thinking, and just as we are only aware of our own thinking and no one else, God is only aware of His own thoughts. Which is why the Holy Spirit living within us renews our minds with the knowledge of God, giving us a mind like our Lord and Savior Jesus.

Our spirit will always be in constant battle with our flesh, hence the importance of staying in the word daily and meditating daily on our spiritual food in order to become more and more like Jesus. Our focus changes, our thoughts are renewed, and we tend to think differently, and the thoughts become words, and actions of our own choosing because we are wiser in the word of God and being changed from the inside out. Your fruit is a representation of the root.

Paul goes on in Ephesians 25-31 encouraging us to be the people God has called and commanded us to be. A people who embody the truth. Be angry and not sin and give no opportunity to the devil. Remember, Satan cannot touch your soul, but he can damage your testimony for Christ. Arm yourselves with the Word. Prepare your minds so that in battle you can withstand.

Know who you are and whose you are and hold focus on the one who poured out grace upon you and was merciful and loves you beyond measure. Know your truth and live it out so that others may know of this mighty God we serve. My devotional this morning spoke of the benefits that wait for us in the presence of God. Not only are they spiritual, but also emotional and physical. We can’t afford to put off our time with the Father. Daily preparation is key to our mindset and our growth as Christians.

Be of good courage. Living daily in this broken world requires bravery on your part. We must discipline ourselves to fix our thoughts on God again and again and again. He promises to be with you wherever you go.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go,” – Joshua 1:9
