Namesake

“He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.” Psalm 23:3 NKJV

Namesake is a HUGE deal where I come from. You best remember who you are, whose you are and represent. The point being it does matter what other people think about you and your family. How we conduct ourselves and treat others speaks volumes about our character and reflects back on you and yours. The words we choose and the keeping of those words build trust and rapport and are a direct reflection upon whom you are as an individual.

I don’t know about you, but if I promised to do something it better be done. Keeping your word was essential to your bottom not getting a belt. The building of my character didn’t feel pleasant at the time but was necessary for my personal growth. God was preparing me then for the responsibility of setting an even higher standard example for others to follow.

We bear a name that carries greater influence than our family alone. We represent the namesake of our Lord and Savior and owe him so much more than we are able to give and He alone only asks we represent for his namesake. Remember whose you are. Remember what it cost for you to bear the namesake of Jesus. To be called a child of God is the highest of any honor anyone could ever receive.

Of late, there has been a tremendous spiritual shift. I know you have felt it. Things are about to get uglier than we have ever seen in our society, but we as God’s children are not to fear, but instead remember at the name of Jesus demons flee and giants fall. We as God’s children live with a hope that fills our hearts with unspeakable joy.

I implore you friend to get into those prayer closets for that is where the battle is won. Ask for the wisdom and guidance required for the things we will face daily that we may be the beacon of hope that God has requested of us for His namesake. I am the most unworthy to carry such an honor as to be called a child of God. I fail him so often, but He gently picks me back up dusts me off and equips me to keep going and try again. May we strive to leave a legacy for our children and grandchildren to be keepers of the light that men may follow the narrow path that so few find in this world. For His Namesake.
